The mcr Sil-MU seal is designed to be used wherever reduced mechanical strength is required, e.g. on wood, steel and aluminium fire doors, fire doors for special areas of application, as well as for ventilation and smoke exhaust ducts, cable ducts, the sealing of windows, facades and others.
The mcr Sil-MU intumescent seal is made of hydrated calcium silicate reinforced with glass fibre, covered with a layer of epoxy resin on both sides. It is activated in temperatures between 100°C and 120°C to form a rigid, non-combustible foam which provides a high level of thermal insulation. It expands in one direction to at least five times its original thickness. The swell pressure generated in the process may reach 1.5 N/mm2. This provides an effective barrier to escaping flames, smoke and hot gases around the circumference of the component, where the seal is installed.
